BASI Pilates Academy Johannesburg

BASI Pilates Academy (BPA) Johannesburg refers to the registered business, Ashley Kim Promotions (Pty) Ltd.

TRAINING TIMES/SESSIONS

Assessment: All new clients are required to complete at least one Private Assessment session before beginning their Pilates practice. During this session, we will discuss your individual needs and reasons for starting Pilates, review your posture and movement mechanics, and introduce the foundational principles of Pilates. *It is recommended to complete 5 Private sessions before joining group classes.

Private or Semi-Private: These sessions are tailored for one or two clients and focus on the specific goals of the participants. Sessions are scheduled at a mutually agreed time and recur at least once per week unless otherwise notified. *Twice weekly sessions are recommended.

Trio: Sessions with three clients.

Quad: Sessions with four clients.

Group Classes: Equipment group classes are limited to a maximum of 8 participants, while mat classes can accommodate up to 18, ensuring high-quality instruction and precise movement execution.

Booking, rescheduling, or cancelling group classes is the client’s responsibility. You will receive a reminder 24 hours before the class, providing the opportunity to cancel or reschedule if necessary.

It is recommended that clients complete 5 private sessions before joining a Group Equipment Class.

PAYMENTS/BOOKING

Rates: We reserve the right to increase our fees annually, in line with inflation rates. Clients will be informed of any fee adjustments at least one month prior to the change.

Private booking: Private session bookings can be made using the studio’s contact details.

CANCELLATIONS: 

Cancellation Policy: Sessions not cancelled at least 24 hours before the appointment will be charged in full.

Early Cancellation: To cancel or reschedule your session without charge, a strict 24-hour cancellation policy applies.

STUDIO CLOSURES

Holidays: The studio is closed on all major South African public holidays and weekends. Group classes are not offered on public holidays. If you wish to schedule a private session on a public holiday or weekend, please make your request in advance and discuss it with your Pilates Trainer or the studio manager.

TEACHER TRAINING COURSES

As the BASI Pilates Teacher Training host location, we are dedicated to hosting multiple teacher training courses and workshops annually. Clients and instructors will be notified in advance of these events, and efforts will be made to minimise disruption to regular studio hours, with sessions rescheduled as necessary.

INSTRUCTOR ABSENCE

If a Pilates Instructor is absent due to illness, continuing education, or personal commitments, every effort will be made to arrange a replacement practitioner.

DISCLAIMER

The studio will not be held liable or responsible for:

  • Any incidents related to entering, exiting, or being within the premises, including accidents involving the gate or other vehicles. Notice regarding this is displayed in the studio.
  • Loss of personal belongings. Clients are advised not to bring valuables into the studio.

ATTIRE AND HYGIENE

  • Grip socks must be worn for hygiene and safety, helping prevent slips.
  • Wear comfortable and preferably fitted clothing to allow instructors to assess your form and alignment.
  • Avoid clothing with zippers, buttons, or embellishments, as these can damage the studio’s equipment.
  • Refrain from wearing strong scents, perfumes, or scented lotions, as some clients may have allergies and the studio space is limited.
  • Tie long hair back to avoid it getting caught in springs or wheels, and remove any dangling jewellery.

BEFORE CLASS

  • Arrive at least 5-10 minutes early to check in, store your belongings, and prepare for the session.
  • Inform your instructor of any injuries, medical conditions, or pregnancy before class begins.
  • Ensure mobile phones are on silent or turned off and left in the designated storage area.
  • If another class is running, enter quietly and wait to be invited in.

DURING CLASS

  • Do not use or touch any equipment until the instructor signals the start of class.
  • Keep conversation to a minimum to maintain focus and a calm atmosphere; concentrate on your breathing and control.
  • Follow the instructor’s cues and refrain from doing your own routine during class.

AFTER CLASS

  • Use the provided sanitising spray and wipes to thoroughly clean any equipment and props you have used.
  • Reset the machine to its original settings, including the footbar, springs, and headrest position.
  • Return all props to their designated storage areas after use.
  • Please keep noise levels down and exit the studio and premises as soon as possible.

PRIVACY

By participating in sessions with us, you consent to being observed by teacher training students. Your instructor will always ask for your approval before allowing a student to observe your session.

Should we wish to film or photograph a session, your prior approval will be sought. If you do not grant permission, your decision will be respected.
